Painter Hollis Sigler explored her struggle with breast cancer in such projects as The Breast Cancer Journals: Walking with the Ghosts of My Grandmothers, which was shown in 1998 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC. Sigler died in March 2001.
